Bangladesh SC upholds Jamaat-e-Islami leader death sentence
A media tycoon and key financier of the Islamist party, Mir Quasem was charged of atrocities committed during the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence, when it separated from Pakistan.
In March 2016, the apex court had upheld the death penalty given by the tribunal in November 2014.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had set up the war crimes tribunal in 2010, which many opposition leaders claimed was a means to victimise her political opponents but Hasina denied the accusations, media reported.
Mir Quasem can now only appeal to the President for clemency.
Jamaat-e-Islami party has called for a 'hartal' or general strike on Wednesday, media reported.
