British MP targets Pakistan as PM Imran Khan 'hails' Taliban snatching power in Afghanistan

| @indiablooms | Aug 21, 2021, at 05:00 am

London: British MP Daniel Kawczynski has asked the UK government to 'seriously consider' the sending of international aid to Pakistan after its prime minister Imran Khan 'hailed' the Taliban and the group's seizure of power in Afghanistan on Sunday.

The MP delivered a sobering message to the Commons on Wednesday during the MP's emergency debate on Afghanistan. He questioned Britain's role in sending "taxpayers' money" to Pakistan, a country that has vocalised its support for the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, reports Express.

According to figures from the Department for International Development, Britain sent £305 million of international aid to Pakistan in 2019, which is the highest sum of all countries that Britain sends money to, reports the news portal.

The MP said: "We need to ask questions about the role of Russia and Pakistan. The allegations that they have been supporting the Taliban. And most concerning of all - Pakistan."

He said: "So there are serious questions to be asked about the role of Pakistan and her security forces."

Pakistan PM Imran Khan voiced his support for Taliban when he said  Afghani people had “broken the shackles of slavery” while describing the group’s capturing of power in the war-torn nation by violent means.

He referred to the Afghanistan situation while referring about how cultural imposition is tantamount to 'mental slavery'.
