The Canadian government has announced to increase the length of stay for parents and grandparents on Super Visa to 5 years per entry, media reports said.

People who currently have a Super Visa will also be provided with an option to request to extend their stay by up to two years while in Canada.

This means current Super Visa holders will now be able to stay in Canada for up to seven consecutive years.

Canada’s Immigration Minister has been empowered with the authority to designate international medical insurance companies to provide coverage to Super Visa applicants in the future.

At present, Super Visa holders are eligible to stay in Canada for up to two years per entry. This is a multi-entry visa that is valid for up to 10 years.

Currently, only Canadian insurance providers was allowed to provide medical coverage to the Super Visa applicants.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has stated it will announce further details at a later date.
