Charles III officially proclaimed British monarch

| @indiablooms | Sep 10, 2022, at 08:38 pm

London: Charles III is formally proclaimed king at an elaborate ceremony at St James' Palace by a 700-member Accession Council on Saturday.

Prince Charles Philip Arthur George is now Charles III, the BBC quoted the proclamation as saying. The proclamation was made after Penny Mordaunt announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The signing of the proclamation was under way with Prince William, while Prime Minister Liz Truss and Archbishop Justin Welby watch on.

Seven living British PMs -- Gordon Brown, David Cameron Boris Johnson and Theresa May were among those lined up as the proclamation of the new king was read out.

The Accession Council is a group consisting of members of the Royal Family, the prime minister and other senior politicians and the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The council gathers at St James's Palace, the official residence of the sovereign to proclaim the new monarch, the BBC said.
