At least nine people, including two traffic police personnel, were killed in a powerful blast that rocked Serai Naurang tehsil in Pakistan’s Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday.

The explosion also left 33 others injured, according to local media reports.

The two deceased police personnel were identified as Adil Jan and Rahatullah.

Lakki Marwat Deputy Inspector General of Police Sajjad Khan confirmed to Dawn News that both victims were traffic police officials.

Initial reports suggested that the explosives had been planted inside a rickshaw.

An incident report issued by the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital confirmed that nine people were killed in the blast and identified the two traffic police personnel among the deceased, Dawn News reported.

A total of 33 injured persons were shifted to the hospital for treatment, while five critically injured victims were later referred to Bannu for specialised medical care.

Several videos circulating on social media showed the aftermath of the explosion, with emergency responders rushing to the scene as thick smoke and debris engulfed the area.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while security in the region has been heightened following the deadly blast.
