Donald Trump congratulates Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi over re-election

Washington, Apr 3 (IBNS): US President Donald Trump on Monday congratulated Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on being re-elected as as the President of Egypt.

During their conversation, the two leaders affirmed the strategic partnership between the United States and Egypt, the White House confirmed.

A statement issued by the White House read: "President Donald J. Trump spoke today with President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi of Egypt. President Trump congratulated President Al Sisi on his reelection."

"The two leaders affirmed the strategic partnership between the United States and Egypt, and noted that they look forward to advancing this partnership and addressing common challenges," read the statement.

US  State Department on Monday said the country is looking forward to work with the Egyptian President.

State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert tweeted: "We look forward to continuing to work with #Egypt's President @AlsisiOfficial to advance our strong partnership. We will continue to encourage a broadening of opportunities for political participation for Egyptians and emphasize the importance of the protection of #HumanRights."
