FBI: Militant in beheading video identified

| | Sep 26, 2014, at 04:47 pm
Washington, Sep 26 (IBNS): US intelligence agency Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director James B. Comey on Thursday said that they have identified the Islamic State militant who had appeared on two videos in the recent past in which two US journalists were seen beheaded by a masked killer, The New York Times News reported.

Comey, however, declined to name the man while agents from the United States and Britain were searching for him.

According to reports, the intelligence agencies used voice-recognition technology, overhead imagery and records of Western fighters who are believed to have joined the group in the effort to identify the killer.

The Islamic militant had first appeared in a video a month ago showing the beheading of James Foley. A second gruesome video showed the death of Steven J. Sotloff and that was released about two weeks later. Both the victims were freelance journalists.
