Former US First Lady Barbara Bush passes away

Washington, Apr 18 (IBNS): Former US first lady  Barbara Bush has died.

She was 92.

She was a key figure in the political family which has given two presidents to the nation- her husband George HW Bush and son George W Bush.

Barbara Bush had served as the first lady of the country from 1989 to 1993.

George HW Bush, her husband, is the longest living US President at 93.

His son George W Bush was elected as the President of the US in 2000.

He served the nation for two terms.

A statement issued by George W Bush's office said: "My dear mother has passed on at age 92. Laura, Barbara, Jenna, and I are sad, but our souls are settled because we know hers was. Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions."

He said: "I'm a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother. Our family will miss her dearly, and we thank you all for your prayers and good wishes."

US President Donald Trump also mourned the death of the former First Lady of the country.

Issuing the statement, he tweeted: "|@FLOTUS Melania and I join the Nation in celebrating the life of Barbara Bush."

In the statement, Trump said: "She will be long remembered for her strong devotion to country and family, both of which she served unfailingly well."

Former President Bill Clinton said in a statement: "Barbara Bush was a remarkable woman. She had grit & grace, brains & beauty. She was fierce & feisty in support of her family & friends, her country & her causes. She showed us what an honest, vibrant, full life looks like. Hillary and I mourn her passing and bless her memory."

US Vice President Mike Pence Barbara Bush was an inspiration to every American.
