German minister Schauble to visit India to boost economic ties

New Delhi, Jan 16 (IBNS): To boost economic ties, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble is scheduled to visit India on January 19-20.

During his two-day stay in the national capital, Schäuble will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley as well as with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

“Finance Minister Dr. Schäuble has for many years been a political heavyweight in Europe and a strong advocate of European integration who helped steer the Euro through the turmoil of the international financial crisis,” said German envoy to India Michael Steiner.

He said the German finance minister’s visit is a significant kick-off to a series of high-level meetings between both the nations in a very promising year for strengthening bilateral relations.

It will further boost Indo-German economic ties ahead of the world’s most important industrial trade fair in Hannover, where India will be in the limelight as the official partner country.

“The high-profile visit is also a step toward the meeting between Prime Minister Modi’s and Chancellor Merkel’s cabinets later this year, “Steiner said.

On the other hand, PM Narendra Modi is also slated to travel to Germany in April this year where he is expected to inaugurate the Hannover Messe together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and hold bilateral meetings at the highest level.
