A 26-year-old Indian-origin man has been killed in a knife attack in Southall, west London, the Metropolitan Police said.

The victim, identified as Gurbhej Singh, was stabbed on North Road near the junction with Dormers Wells Lane shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

A second man, believed to be in his 30s, was also injured in the incident and was taken to hospital. He has since been discharged after receiving treatment.

Police said officers were called to the scene by the London Ambulance Service following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers and paramedics found two injured men.

Victim died at the scene

Despite efforts by medical personnel, Singh, who had suffered a knife wound, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.

Detectives believe Singh was attacked outside a shop at the junction of North Road and Dormers Wells Lane at around 12:30 am.

Arrests made, investigation continues

Seven men aged between their early 20s and late 30s were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

Following further enquiries, six of the suspects were released with no further action. One man has been granted bail and is due to return to police at a later date as investigations continue.

Police have appealed for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to come forward.

Police appeal for information

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell of the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command said detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Singh's death.

"Homicide detectives continue to investigate Singh's tragic death and my thoughts remain with his family and loved ones," Foxwell said.

"We believe he was assaulted outside a shop at the junction of North Road and Dormers Wells Lane at around 00:30hrs. I would urge anyone with CCTV covering the area — or who was in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to police — to please come forward and speak to police," she added.

Fundraiser launched to repatriate body

In the wake of the incident, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover the costs of repatriating Singh's body, along with documentation, transportation, funeral arrangements and other related expenses.

The fundraiser has so far raised 11,114 euros through 737 donations against a target of 16,000 euros.
