Hours after an assassination attempt was made on former US President Donald Trump, some internet users tried to find a lighter side to the incident and said the popular TV show The Simpsons had predicted that such an act would happen in one of its episodes.

The Simpsons, popular among viewers for several years and even now, is known for making bizarre predictions about several global events.

Sharing a set of screenshots from the episode, one internet user wrote on X: "Simpsons got some explaining to do #trump shot Can't make this stuff up."

Another netizen wrote: "No way The Simpsons predicted Donald Trump getting shot.”

One internet writer said: " The Simpsons predicted Trump would get assassinated, but were they right again!"

Former US President Donald Trump was rushed off stage after he was injured in a series of gunshots fired at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

As gunshots were heard, he was seen clutching a hand to his right ear, where blood was visible across his cheek and mouth.

He was shot in the ear as his face got streaked with blood. While Trump grabbed his ear and crouched down, he got up a minute later and pumped his fist in the air and yelled, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”

The US Secret Service confirmed that Trump was safe, but a rally attendee was killed in the firing and two were injured.

The assailant was shot dead by the Secret Service.
