Kabul: 4 inmates killed, several wounded during a clash in Pul-e-Charkhi prison

Kabul, May 15 (IBNS): A clash broke out in the Pul-e-Charkhi prison in Afghanistan capital Kabul city and left at least four inmates dead, media reports said on Wednesday.

Several others, including security personnel, were hurt in the incident.

The incident took place earlier today as the security forces and prison personnel had launched an operation to collect prohibited items from the prison cells, reported Khaama Press.

As per the Afghanistan-based news agency report, officials in the Ministry of Interior are saying that the clashes started in Block 4 of the prison when the inmates refused to hand over the prohibited items to secuirty forces and personnel of the prison.

Nasrat Rahimi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior has confirmed to Khaama Press that the security forces initially tried to disperse the protesting inmates by firing in the air but the clashes intensified leaving 4 prisoners dead and 13 others wounded. 

The clash later ended and security forces brought the situation under control.
