Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice announces 'siege' on Indian Consulate in Vancouver

US-based Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) has threatened to 'siege' the Indian consulate in the Canadian city of Vancouver on Thursday, media reports said.

In a statement allegedly published by the group and now circulating online, SFJ has asked Indo-Canadians planning to visit the consulate to choose an alternative date.

The group also released a poster featuring the new Indian High Commissioner, Dinish Patnaik, on which a target mark has been created on his face.

"Two years ago -- 18 September 2023 -- Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Parliament that the Indian agents' role was under investigation in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar," read the statement issued by the group.

"Two years on, Indian Consulates continue to run spy network and surveillance targeting Khalistan Referendum campaigners," it added.

The bond between India and Canada had touched a low point during the tenure of former PM Justin Trudeau following the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, an incident that Canada blamed on India.

Trudeau had admitted that his government had not provided hard evidentiary proof when it accused India of being involved in the killing of Nijjar.

India accused the previous Trudeau government of casting aspersions on New Delhi for domestic vote bank politics.
