A 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death on a double-decker bus in London in broad daylight on Tuesday with the police describing the incident as a 'horrendous crime'.

The incident occurred on a Route 472 bus on Woolwich Church Road near the junction with the A205 South Circular Road, Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

"Paramedics treated a 14-year-old boy at the scene who had received stab wound injuries, but he very sadly died shortly after medics arrived," the statement said.

No arrests have been made so far.

Superintendent Louise Sargent, the Deputy Commander for the South East BCU which covers the Woolwich area, said in a statement: "Our thoughts at this time are with the victim’s family and friends. This is a horrendous crime and I can’t imagine what they must be going through right now."

"No arrests have been made at this early stage, but we are working at pace to identify and arrest those involved," she said.

The latest incident occurred just months after another teenage boy died due to knife crime in Woolwich.

Daèjaun Campbell, 15, was fatally stabbed in September, reported BBC.

Matthew Pennycook, the Labour MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, expressed sadness over the death of the teen in the knife attack and posted on X: " Deeply saddened that another young life has been lost in our community today following a stabbing in Woolwich. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased."

As per statistics released by the  Office for National Statistics in October, knife crime in England and Wales increased by four percent in the 12 months to June compared to the previous year.
