Middle East crisis: Security enhanced in New York, Washington, after US bombs Iran

| @indiablooms | Jun 22, 2025, at 02:04 pm

Security has been beefed up in New York and Washington DC after the US launched military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities amid heightened tension in the Middle East.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) announced that it has enhanced deployment at religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites throughout the city.

"We’re tracking the situation unfolding in Iran," NYPD wrote on X.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we're deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners. We’ll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC," the police further said.

The  Metropolitan Police Department also issued a similar warning for Washington DC.

In a statement posted on X, the police said: "The Metropolitan Police Department is closely monitoring the events in Iran. We are actively coordinating with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to share information and monitor intelligence in order to help safeguard residents, businesses, and visitors in the District of Columbia."

The police, however, said there is currently no threat to the district.

The police said security presence has been increased in religious institutions in the city.

"We continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and help keep our community safe," the statement said.

US Bombs 3 Iranian Nuclear Sites

US President Donald Trump on Saturday announced bombing Iran's three nuclear sites and said with this operation, there would either be peace or more tragedy for Tehran.

The sites are Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

He thanked Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as the Israeli army and said it was a teamwork.

In an address to the world and nation from the White House, President Trump said: "A short time ago, the US military carried out massive precision strikes on the three key nuclear facilities in the Iranian regime. Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. Everybody heard those names for years as they built this horribly destructive enterprise. Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terror.

"Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier.

Iran-Israel Conflict

The conflict started a week ago when Israel launched airstrikes against Iranian nuclear and military sites, primarily targeting uranium enrichment facilities to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
