Moscow summons Canada envoy to protest 'false accusations' of sabotage against NATO countries

Moscow/IBNS: Russia on Friday summoned Canada’s envoy in Moscow to protest what it described as “false accusations” that claimed Russia planned subversive mail-based attacks in Canada and NATO countries.

Russia labelled these allegations as a part of a "hybrid war" waged by the United States and its allies.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that it summoned the deputy head of the Canadian Embassy in Moscow to formally object to what it called disinformation.

The ministry asserted that rumors of explosives being mailed to recipients in Canada and other countries were "coordinated by the US and its allies" as part of an anti-Russia strategy.

The statement noted that, alongside Canada’s military support to Ukraine, including weapons and personnel, such allegations raise "the potential for a harsh anti-Russian provocation."

Russia also warned that any staged provocations or “false flag” actions would be the responsibility of the accusing countries, including Canada.

“The Canadian side was informed that any hostile actions would not go unanswered, as they have not in the past. Canadian authorities should exercise caution and avoid further steps that could heighten tensions with Russia,” the ministry stated.

This action follows recent US media reports alleging that Russian agents were using postal services to send explosives to individuals in North America and Europe.

Russian officials dismissed these reports, emphasizing that such actions would be impossible, as postal services between Russia, Europe, the US, and Canada have been suspended since 2022.
