Ontario ban on Cleveland name, logo hearing in Toronto Court

| | Oct 18, 2016, at 03:30 am
Toronto, Oct 17 (IBNS): A suit filed in the Toronto court, will be heard on Monday on account of an attempt to bar the Cleveland Indians from using their team name and logo in Ontario.

Indigenous activist Douglas Cardinal who filed the legal challenge, will be heard on the same day that the baseball team will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.

However, according to a statement, Cardinal's lawyers will ask the court to bar the usage of the name and logo by the team, Major League Baseball and Rogers Communications, which is broadcasting the American League Championship Series.

Rogers, too owns the Blue Jays and Rogers Centre, the stadium the team plays in.

Chief Wahoo, their team logo, is a cartoon man with red skin and a feather in his headband.

Moreover, Cardinal's councils say team members should not be allowed to wear their regular jerseys, the logo too should not be broadcasted and the team must be referred to as "the Cleveland team."

Cleveland is leading Toronto in the playoff series 2-0.
