Whitby/IBNS: Committed to helping keep costs down for families and businesses in Durham Region, the Ontario government has permanently removed the unfair tolls on Highways 412 and 418.

“The unfair and expensive tolls on Highways 412 and 418 are officially gone for good...Whether it’s eliminating the cost of renewing your license plate, cutting the gas tax, and now getting rid of these unfair tolls, we’re keeping costs down for people and businesses here in Durham and across the province,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said in a news release.

Before their removal, Highways 412 and 418 were the only north-south highways with tolls in the province.

“The tolls were unjustly imposed and placed a financial burden...Being able to drive on these highways for free will save drivers both time and money and boost the economic competitiveness of the region, Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation said in the news release.

The removal of tolls demonstrates the government’s steadfast commitment to helping Durham Region continue to grow and thrive, said Lorne Coe, MPP for Whitby in the news release.
