Pakistan: Blast leaves two dead in Balochistan

A blast ripped through a marketplace in Balochistan’s Qila Abdullah district in Pakistan on Sunday, leaving two people dead and 11 others injured.

Deputy Commissioner Qila Abdullah Riyaz Khan told Dawn.com, “Two people were killed while 11 were injured in the explosion.”

Initial investigation showed the bombs were planted ina  vehicle.

Khan said bomb disposal squad officials were summoned to the spot.

“An emergency was declared at the District Health Headquarters in Qila Abdullah, where medical assistance was being provided to the injured,” he said.

In a separate statement given to Dawn News, Qila Abdullah Levies Risaldar Gulab Khan said, “The blast took place near the Abdul Jabbar Market in the Gulistan area of Qila Abdullah district, resulting in the death of two people and injuries to 11 others."

“After the explosion, Levies personnel and people present at the scene immediately rescued the injured, who were then moved to the District Health Headquarters Chaman for treatment," he said.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti shared grief with the families of the victims.

“The war against terrorism is undoubtedly a war of national security,” CM Bugti said in a statement as quoted by Dawn News.

“The elements involved in the Gulistan blast will be brought to an end soon,” he said.

Balochistan's Security Situation

Balochistan has been witnessed insurgency for several years now.

Security situation in Balochistan has spiked in recent times.

The insurgents have increased the intensity of their attack in the past few months.

Several groups, including outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army, have been launching the attacks in the area.

Jaffar Express Hijack

As many as 26 hostages, including 18 security personnel, died after Jaffar Express train was hijacked by insurgents in Sibi area in March.

Five security personnel were killed during the operation.
