Pakistan: Blast occurs close to Karachi airport, two Chinese nationals die

| @indiablooms | Oct 07, 2024, at 02:40 pm

At least two Chinese nationals died and 10 others were injured after an explosion took place close to Pakistan's Jinnah International Airport on Sunday.

The Chinese embassy in Pakistan said there were "some local casualties" in what it described as a "terrorist attack", though the overall death toll is still unclear, reported BBC.

The embassy said the blast targeted a convoy of  Chinese engineers who were working on a power project in Pakistan's Sindh region.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the incident.

The separatist group is often involved in carrying out attacks on Chinese nationals who are working on various projects in Pakistan.

Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed told Dawn News that at least nine injured persons, including a policeman and a woman, were brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Two of the injured were also shifted to a private hospital in Clifton, police sources told the newspaper.
