Pakistan chopper crash kills 7, Taliban claims responsibility of attack
Islamabad, May 8 (IBNS): Local Taliban has claimed responsibility of the helicopter crash in Pakistan's Naltar Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan on Friday, which left at least seven people, including Ambassador of Philippines Domingo D Lucenario Jr and Ambassador of Norway Leif Larsen, killed.
Soon after the incident, the Pakistani Taliban group claimed that it attacked the chopper with a shoulder-launched missile as it had hoped to kill country's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s aircraft as well, reports said.
Sharif was travelling to the area in a separate aircraft to launch two projects when the incident occurred.
Pakistan's Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the incident as DG ISPR Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa tweeted: "7 Fatalities.Foreigners-4(Ambs Norway,Philipine,wife of Amb Indonesia,Malaysia).Pakistani- 3; two pilots,one crew member-6."
He earlier said the crash occurred due to technical fault.
"Update Naltar:Accident cause-As per initial info,2 heli landed safely while 3rd developed tech fault while landing-7," he tweeted.
There were 11 foreigners and six Pakistani passengers on board.
