Pakistan govt files review petition against order that allowed no-confidence vote

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is trying every trick to avert the no-confidence motion to unseat his government even as the opposition is tightening its stranglehold blocking all possibilities of his escape.

On Saturday, the Pakistan government filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a review of the April 7 decision.

On Thursday, Supreme Court unanimously rejected the bypassing of the no-confidence motion in the National Assembly on Sunday against Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan said has asked the Speaker to expel 20 rebel MPs as he tries to escape the no-confidence motion, which the Opposition is adamant to take upon.

The local media report also said that the Speaker has said he would not allow the no-confidence motion as he cannot betray Imran Khan.

Pakistani Opposition leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif has demanded Imran Khan's arrest.

She said, "There is a match in the hand of a mentally ill person suffering from this fear, with which he wants to set fire on all sides. He must be arrested before he can cause further harm. The fate of 22 crores cannot be given in the hands of such a hegemonic person."

It is still not clear if Imran Khan will leave the country but media reports said that the next government may press charges against him and he may be tried in the court.
