Pakistan: Protesters attempt to storm French Embassy in Islamabad, police fire teargas

Islamabad/IBNS: Pakistan police on Friday fired teargas on protesters who attempted to storm the French Embassy in Islamabad to protests against the printing of images depicting the Prophet Mohammad and President Emmanuel Macron defending the same.

Around 3,000 protesters reportedly gathered in Islamabad, about half a km from the French Embassy enclave.

No one was injured in the incident and with the police interference, the protesters moved back to their original spot of gathering as agreed with the authorities.

Some protesters also belonged to banned terror group Sipah e Sahaba, South Asia Press reported.

Such protests by extremist outfits are being organized across Pakistan after French President defended drawing cartoons of Prophet Mohammad.

Leaders of several Muslim countries have also come down heavily on the French President for his efforts to keep his country free from Islamist terror as Macron faces one of the toughest challenges of his Presidency.

Recently, 47-year-old history teacher Samuel Paty was beheaded in Paris for showing a caricature of Prophet Mohammad during a discussion on free speech.

Macron was essentially targetting this fanaticism from Islamists but became a target himself.

On Oct 29, another Islamist terror struck France, claiming the lives of three people, including the beheading of one.
