Pakistan: Balochistan witnessed 45 pc rise in terror, 100 pc spike in targeted killing in first half of 2025

A report published by the Balochistan Home Department has shown that the volatile Pakistani region is witnessing a 45 percent increase in terrorist incidents and a 100 percent increase in targeted killings of local residents in the first six months of the year.

The report states that 257 people, including 133 personnel, were killed in 501 terrorist incidents in Balochistan during the first 6 months of this year, while 492 people, including 238 personnel, were injured.

In another report released by the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (COIED) states that 125 new cases of enforced disappearances were registered across Pakistan in the first half of 2025.

The reports said 36 of the cases were reported from Balochistan.

However, data compiled by the Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC) — a movement working with families of missing persons in Balochistan — paints a starkly different picture — the data claims that 752 individuals were forcibly disappeared in the province in the same period.

Of these, 181 individuals were recovered, 25 were killed, and 546 remain missing.

Balochistan Cauldron

Balochistan is one of the largest provinces in Pakistan, but has witnessed the least development over the years.

Several separatist groups operating in the region have intensified attacks in the area in recent years.

Apart from targeting Punjabis and Sinhdis present in the area from different parts of the country, these insurgents have also attacked foreign energy firms whom they accuse of exploiting the region without sharing profits.
