Mardan, Pakistan Apr 14 (IBNS) : A journalism student was lynched in broad daylight at Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKU), Mardan on Thursday after being accused of blasphemy, local media reports said.

According to Dawn,  23-year-old Mashal Khan was done to death and another was seriously injured  by a vigilate mobe for  allegedly "publishing blasphemous content online".

The incident occurred within the university premises.

The campus was shut down indefiniely following the incident  and its hostels vacated to avoid a further escalation of violence.

At least 45 people had been arrested in connection with the incident, reports quoted  Mardan District Police Officer  Mian Saeed as saying.

No case had been filed against the two students prior to the incident and police had not been investigating the two on blasphemy charges.

The mob instead seems to have been incited by rumours circulating among the university's student body.
