Taiwan policy hasn't changed: White House after Joe Biden warns China

Washington/IBNS: The White House has asserted that there is no change in its policy towards Taiwan following US President Joe Biden's warning to China over the island nation which is under the Republic of China.

Biden has signalled the willingness to use force to defend Taiwan if it comes under attack.

A White House official said as quoted by NDTV, "As the President said, our policy has not changed."

"He reiterated our One China Policy and our commitment to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. He also reiterated our commitment under the Taiwan Relations Act to provide Taiwan with the military means to defend itself," the official added.

Meanwhile, China has taken a swipe at the US over its Indo-Pacific strategy at the Quad meeting.

"Facts will prove that the so-called 'Indo-Pacific strategy' is essentially a strategy for creating divisions, a strategy for inciting confrontation, and a strategy for destroying peace," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said as quoted by NDTV.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the US's Indo-Pacific strategy is "doomed to fail".
