Texas Republican calls Lord Hanuman a 'false Hindu God', faces crticisms from Hindu community

A Texas Republican is facing criticisms from the Hindu community for his remarks on a 90-foot statue of Lord Hanuman--known as the 'Statue of Union', built in a US town of Sugar Land.

Texas Republican Alexander Duncan described Lord Hanuman as 'False Hindu God'

Calling the US a 'Christian Nation', Texas Republican Alexander Duncan wrote on X: "Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God to be here in Texas? We are a CHRISTIAN nation!"

The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) described his remark as 'anti-Hindu'.

The HAF said: "Hello @TexasGOP, will you be disciplining your senate candidate from your party who openly contravenes your own guidelines against discrimination—displaying some pretty sordid anti-Hindu hate—not to mention disrespect for the 1st Amendment’s Establishment Clause?"

The Statue of Union is North America’s tallest statue of Lord Hanuman.

Located at Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land, Texas, the Panchaloha Abhaya Hanuman stands at 90 feet tall.

Several netizens criticised his remark and posted their observations in the comment section.

One of them wrote: "It is ok. Nobody is trying to force Hinduism on us, this statue is 90 ft tall in Sugar Land."

Another internet user said: "What do you mean by 'false Hindu god'. All gods are equally false.I understand you dislike having foreign symbols build up like that, but do not portray others gods as being more false than yours, that is preposterous."
