Santos, Jan 15, (IBNS): Brazil's largest port, Santos, is battling toxic gas spread after a chemical explosion at a cargo warehouse.

The cargo terminal and nearby homes have been evacuated and residents have been asked to stay indoors.

Several people have been taken to hospital with breathing difficulties.

Localfrio,a logistics company in Guaruja, which exports chemicals used for refrigeration and general cargo, operates the terminal.

According to local reports, rain water seeping into the containers, which were full of acid and a disinfectant, may have led to the chemical reaction.
