UK vows £1bn in military support to Ukraine

| @indiablooms | Jun 30, 2022, at 09:19 pm

Madrid/UNI: The UK will provide an additional £1 billion in military aid to Ukraine in its fight against Russia, the Government committed during the NATO summit in Madrid.

The new funding takes the military aid given to Kyiv to £2.3bn - and the UK has also spent £1.5bn in humanitarian and economic support for Ukraine, according to BBC.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the spending was "transforming Ukraine's defences".

This comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the NATO leaders to do more to help the country in fighting against Russia.

He said that the monthly cost of defense was around $5 billion.

The UK is second only to the US in terms of military aid for Ukraine - the US recently approved a $40 billion package of support, BBC reported.

The UK government said that the latest aid will pay Ukraine's " "sophisticated air defence systems", drones, electronic warfare equipment, and "thousands of pieces of vital kit".
