US First Lady Melania Trump undergoes kidney surgery

Washington, May 15 (IBNS): US First Lady Melania Trump underwent a kidney surgery on Monday, media reports said.

She is currently admitted to the  Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, DC.

"This morning, first lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. The procedure was successful, and there were no complications," the first lady's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement as reported by CNN.

She also tweeted: "Thank you to the amazing medical staff @WRBethesda for taking such good care of @FLOTUS! And a sincere thank you to everyone who has reached out w good thoughts & prayers. She is in good spirits & doing well!"

During the surgery, US President Donald Trump reportedly remained in the White House.

Trump said his wife was in a 'good spirit' after the surgery.

"Heading over to Walter Reed Medical Center to see our great First Lady, Melania. Successful procedure, she is in good spirits. Thank you to all of the well-wishers!" tweeted the President.
