Who is Avtar Singh? Abducted Sikh man found dead near US lake

American authorities on Monday said they have recovered the body of Sikh man named Avtar Singh near Lake Berryessa in the USA.

Singh was reportedly abducted last week from the Tracy region.

In a statement, the San Joaquin Sheriff's Office said: "On 2/17/26 at approximately 8:52 PM, patrol deputies responded to the 16000 block of W. Grant Line Road in Tracy for a reported missing person. During the investigation, surveillance footage showed a white SUV and three unidentified individuals dressed in dark clothing with the victim at approximately 2:30 PM. The victim appeared to enter the vehicle against his will."

The statement said: "On Friday, February 20, 2026, at approximately 3:20 PM, near Lake Berryessa, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office located a body matching the description of our missing person."

The office said its detectives are working tirelessly to investigate this case and identify those responsible for this terrible act.

"Based on the information known at this time, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known ongoing threat to the community," the statement said.

As per the GoFundMe page set up by his family and friends, Singh served the Tracy gurdwara for more than 20 years.

He left behind his wife and six-month-old triplets.
