Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood's prominent actor Saif Ali Khan getting stabbed resisting a burglary attempt at his home in Mumbai has sent shockwaves across the film fraternity, raising questions on security of the celebrities in tinseltown.

Actress Pooja Bhatt slammed the Mumbai Police and administration claiming the city has never felt so unsafe before.

Pooja wrote on X, "Can this lawlessness please be curbed @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice. We need more Police presence in Bandra. The city & especially the queen of the subburbs, have never felt so unsafe before. Kind Attn @ShelarAshish @mieknathshinde @AjitPawarSpeaks @Dev_Fadnavis."

In another X post, she said, "Law & Order. We have laws.. what about order?"

The actress, "Local police are our first preventers/grass root defenders. It is law enforcements duty to create an environment in which people with a criminal bent do not feel comfortable to operate. The Beat officer must act as a deterrent in preventing criminal activity."

Telugu film star Jr. NTR has expressed his shock and sadness over the incident, which took place on Wednesday night.

He wrote on X, "Shocked and saddened to hear about the attack on Saif sir. Wishing and praying for his speedy recovery and good health."

The incident reportedly occurred at around 2:30 am.

Saif, who is married to Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan, was rushed to Lilavati Hospital at around 3:30 am.

As per some reports, Saif was stabbed six times leading him to suffer multiple injuries including in his throat, hand and close to spinal cord.

The actor is undergoing a surgery and reports claim he is out of danger.

It is said that Saif was stabbed when he was having a fight with the suspect who sneaked into his home where the actor's family members, house help were also present.

Police have launched a probe into the incident. The actor's statement has been recorded.

Saif's team said in an official statement, "There was an attempted burglary at Mr Saif Ali Khans residence. He is currently in hospital undergoing a surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter. We will keep you updated on the situation."

The attack on Saif, the son of late cricket great Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and acting icon Sharmila Tagore, has raised doubts over the security in Mumbai where heavyweight politician Baba Siddique was killed last year and several attempts to attack Bollywood superstar Salman Khan were made in recent past.

Questions are raised as to how the burglar could reach to the floor where the 54-year-old resides with his family.
