Ending a wait of 10 years, the Indian team, riding on a strong performance on skipper Rohit Sharma (57) and a strong performance of spinner, defeated England by 68 runs to reach the final of the T20 World Cup on Thursday.

England put India to bat first after winning the toss in a rain-hit match.

Rohit Sharma smashed 57 runs as led from the front and  Suryakumar Yadav contributed 47 runs with his willow as India posted 171 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their quota of 20 overs.

Following a reliable batting display, the Indian bowlers came into action and Axar Patel (3/23) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/19) finished the task as the current champions were bowled out for 103 runs.

India's dependable fast bowling star Jasprit Bumrah gave early blows by picking up the wickets of  Phil Salt (5) after Axar Patel gave the first blow to the champions by dismissing set skipper Jos Buttler (23).

Patel went on to take two more wickets of Moen Ali (8) and Jonny Bairstow (0).

Harry Brook (25) and Jofra Archer (21) tried to put up some resistance against India.

Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Brook and Bumrah ended the run of Archer to shatter England's hope of reaching another final.

India will now face South Africa in the final.

Both teams remain unbeaten in the tournament so far.

The win ensured India took revenge against England, the champions who defeated the squad in the semi-final clash in Adelaide in 2022.

India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007.

South Africa reached the final of the tournament for the first time, ending their semi-final collapse history.

In November last year, Austalia defeated India in the final of the 50 over World Cup.
