Keen enthusiasm marks opening day’s competition in K C Mahindra All India School Regatta

Kolkata, May 7 (IBNS):  St. Thomas High and Sushila Birla  High School in the Junior Girls section  and strong Contender South Point High School ,along with  G D Birla “A”, and National High School, West Bengal brightened their chance for a berth in the quarter finals as they won their races in the Senior and Junior Girls s categories  of 46th K C Mahindra All India Invitaion School Regatta being held at the Lake Cub course  of Rabindra Sarovar here Monday.  

The weeklong regatta is  being held in round robin league cum knok-out basis.

In the Senior Boys group, where number of participants are more  DA V Chandigarh, St. Xaviers “A” and  National High School “A”  also came closer for slot in the last  eight stage  as they forced  two wins each.

Junior Boys section  saw  “ Jatragachi “A” from  North 24 Parganas district and     city based Kalidhan Institution also doing   well  to force two victories and have thrown strong challenges  for  rt won he knock-out stage.

With more than  370 rowers, both boys and girls from 58 schools from different states of the country participating in the week long annual event , the meet was  inaugurating  by Wrst Bengal Municipal and Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion Jenab Hakim complemented Lake Club’s effort in popularizing regatta  among the students and youths  and said “ It’s nice to see the ordinary schools also participating in this popular event beside the recognized  institutions from West Bengal and other states. This fine effort by the club will pay result  in the days to come”,he  added. The urban development minster also informed that the government was also serious about development of  this sport in this state.

All the participants in all the four categories- Senior Boys, Junior Boys, Senior Girs have been divided in four  and Junior Girls have been divided in four groups each. Two top teams from each group will qualify for the quarter finals.
