Japan to release 54,600 tons of Fukushima nuclear wastewater in 2024

The operator of Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), has announced a plan to release around 54,600 tons of nuclear-contaminated water from the facility into the ocean in fiscal 2024.

Japan has begun discharging treated radioactive wastewater from the disabled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station into the Pacific Ocean, 12 years on from the major meltdown there, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed on Thursday.
