8 militants killed as offensive repulsed in N Afghanistan
Kunduz, Afghanistan, Jan 4/xinhua/UNI: At least eight fighters affiliated with the Taliban group were killed, when their attack on government forces' checkpoints was repelled in northern Afghanistan's province of Kunduz on Friday, Esmatullah Muradi, the provincial governor spokesman said.
The fighting happened on early Friday morning, when a group of Taliban militants launched an attack on government forces' checkpoints in Qahwa Khana area outside the provincial capital Kunduz city and police retaliated, killing eight insurgents on the spot, forcing others to flee, the official added.
Three policemen were also wounded in the firefight, the source confirmed.
No comment has been made from the Taliban fighters operating against government forces in the restive province.
