Kabul, Jan 21 (IBNS):  A suicide bomber struck a special forces’ base in central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan and left at least 12 security personnel dead, media reports said on Monday.

The attack left 30 others hurt, reports said.

The bombing happened at around 7:30am after a firefight between militants and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel stationed in the Bagh-i-Zanana area of the provincial capital, reported Pajhwok Afghan News.

Mohibullah Sharifzai, a government spokesman, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News that it was a suicide car attack, saying a second car bombing was thwarted.

A third suicide attacker was frustrated by security forces soon after the blast, he told Afghanistan-based news agency.

Six injured people were taken to Kabul city for treatment.

As per the Pajhwok Afghan News report, Taliban claimed credit for the complex attack.
