Al-Qaeda supremo pledges allegiance to new Taliban leader

Kabul, June 11 (IBNS) In a significant move, militant group Al-Qaeda supremo Ayman al-Zawahiri has pledged allegiance to new Afghan Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada.

The pledge was reportedly made in a  14-minute audio and video message which was posted online.

"Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri mourned the killing of former Afghan Taliban head Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansour and pledged allegiance to the group's new chief, Haibatullah Akhundzada," US-based monitor SITE Intelligence Group website said.
