Dhaka/IBNS/UNI: At least 15 people were killed after two trains collided in Bangladesh's Kishoreganj district, some 117 km northeast of Dhaka, on Monday, the district's Additional Superintendent of Police Md Mostak Sarker told Xinhua.

The official said the container train heading towards seaport city Chattogram collided with Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Express at around 3:30 p.m. local time Monday.

"Fifteen bodies have so far been retrieved from the wreckage," he said, adding that some 100 people have been injured after several carriages of the Egarosindhur Express overturned in the crash, fearing the death toll may rise significantly.

Most of the rescued passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospitals, said the official.

Hundreds of volunteers and locals joined fire servicemen who had been working frantically to rescue people believed to be trapped under the wreckage.
