Donald Trump cites his visit to Middle East as the reason behind Qatar's isolation
In a tweet, Trump said: "During my recent trip to the Middle East I stated that there can no longer be funding of Radical Ideology. Leaders pointed to Qatar - look!"
On Monday, the Gulf nations like the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Yemen, Libya's National Transition Council and Maldives snapped diplomatic ties with Qatar, followed by the temporary banning of airline by some countries.
"So good to see the Saudi Arabia visit with the King and 50 countries already paying off. They said they would take a hard line on funding..." Trump said in a follow up tweet.
According to BBC News, while giving a speech at the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, the US President blamed Iran for instability in the Middle East and also urged several Muslim nations to take a stand against Qatar for sponsoring terrorism.
In a latest tweet, Trump said: "...extremism, and all reference was pointing to Qatar. Perhaps this will be the beginning of the end to the horror of terrorism!"
However, Saudi Arabia dismissed such accusations of sponsoring terrorism.
Foreign minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, told BBC News that their country is ready to face the "blockade" by some countries but complained that people of Qatar became the victims of the situation.
On Tuesday, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE banned their citizens from visiting Qatar and asked Qatari nationals to leave their respective countries with two weeks.
One of the Gulf countries, Kuwait, who is not involved in the step taken by the neighboring countries, is trying to act as as a mediator.
Following the recent developments, FIFA on Monday, said that they are keeping a close eye on the preparations of the 2022 Football World Cup that would be hosted by Qatar.
