Cairo/UNI: Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak passed away after prolonged illness, state-run TV reported on Tuesday. He was 94.

Mubarak was Egypt's longest-serving ruler as he served for nearly 30 years, then resigned as a result of large-scale protests that erupted in the country in 2011.

He had stepped down after 18 days of large scale protests during the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, popularly known as Arab Spring.
