Paris, Jun 3 (IBNS) High alert was sounded on Friday in the French capital with the forecast of more rain resulting in peaking of flood waters with the River Seine due to reach 6m (19ft) above its normal level, media reported.

The famous Louvre and Orsay museums in Paris have been shut so that staff can move valuable artworks from underground vaults to safety and ensure ways to prevent the flood water from entering the buildings.

A rail line running along the Seine in central Paris has also been closed down, media reported.

The French Open Tennis tournament has also been hampered by the rains.

Heavy rains through the week has devastated parts of Germany and France, forcing thousands to flee their homes, according to media reports.

Belgium, Austria, Netherlands and Poland have also been affected.

More rain is expected through the weekend, according to the weather office.
