Ghana: At least 53 dead as bus, truck collide

Accra, Feb 18 (IBNS) At least 53 people were reported dead after a bus collided with a cargo truck in Ghana on Wednesday evening, according to reports.

CNN reported that 23 others sustained injuries in the same mishap.

Initial reports have suggested that the accident took place as the bus had faulty brakes.

Condoling the incident, President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama wrote on Twitter: "Received the sad news of an accident involving a M.M.T. Bus on the Kintampo- Tamale road. Condolences to those who've lost loved ones."

"Emergency services working to attend to injured passengers in the M.M.T. Bus accident on the Kintampo- Tamale road. Very sad news."
