OIC condemns Kabul attack that left over 40 killed
Kabul, Dec 26 (IBNS): The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attack on a government building that houses a public welfare department in Kabul, Afghanistan by a suicide bomber and some extremists on Monday, leading to the death of dozens of people and injuring many more others.
The OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen described the attack as a heinous and deplorable act. The Secretary General expressed the solidarity of the OIC with the government and people of the Republic of Afghanistan in the face of these terrorist acts.
He extended his condolences to the families of the victims over this tragedy, and wished the injured a fast recovery.
The General Secretariat reiterated the principled position of the OIC that vigorously denounces all acts of terrorism and violent extremism in all forms and manifestations, just as it categorically rejects any justifications for terrorism.
At least 43 people were killed as terrorists attacked a government building in Afghanistan's Kabul city, media reports said Tuesday.
No militant group has yet claimed the attack.
Another 10 people were injured.
Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack in the 16th police district started unfolding at around 3 pm and the assailants first exploded an explosive-laden car near the Ministry of Public Works and then entered the nearby National Authority for People with Disabilities and Martyrs’ Families.
The attackers took the government employees as hostages for several hours.
Security forces and the attackers exchanged gunfires.
Mujahid told the Afghanistan-based news agency that the gunmen entered the government building after the car bombing and the exchange of fire continued as of 8 pm.
An eyewitness told the news agency the gun-battle began after two powerful blasts.
