Pakistani court summons caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar on February 19 over Baloch missing students

The Islamabad High Court has summoned caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on February 19 over failing to recover alleged missing students in Balochistan.

The directive was issued as IHC’s Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani resumed hearing a petition regarding the implementation of the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, reported Dawn News.

Established in 2011, the commission aimed to trace missing persons and fix responsibility on the individuals or organisations responsible for it.

The IHC in November warned a case might be registered against the interim premier and others if they failed to reunite the missing students with their family members.

During that hearing, the Attorney General for Pakistan had informed the court that out of 50 missing persons, 22 had been recovered, while the whereabouts of 28 others were still unknown, Dawn News reported.

The development occurred at a time when Pakistan voted to elect a new government last week.

However, no government has been formed so far since none of the parties managed to touch a majority.
