Kathmandu, Jun 7 (IBNS): Sher Bahadur Deuba, 70, of the Nepali Congress (NC) will take oath, on Wednesday, as the country's 40th PM, according to media reports.

He will succeed PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

This is Deuba's fourth stint as the PM of Nepal. According to media reports, he regains his post after 12 years, when he was unceremoniously removed by the then King Gyanendra.

Sher Bahadur Deuba was the sole candidate to contest in the prime ministerial election as the main opposition UML and other parties did not send their candidates.

He had the support of more than 50 per cent lawmakers needed for his election to the top post, media reported.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, congratulated the veteran leader. He said, ""Called Shri Sher Bahadur Deuba to congratulate him on being elected the Prime Minister of Nepal."

"I conveyed my best wishes to Shri Deuba for peace, prosperity and progress in Nepal under his leadership", the Prime Minister said.
