Terror group Al Qaeda is plotting plane attacks in Europe, warns UK Security Minister Ben Wallace
London, Dec 24 (IBNS): UK Security Minister Ben Wallace has warned that terrorist group Al Qaeda might carry out terror attacks on passenger planes and airports in Europe.
Al-Qaeda is resurgent and seeking to carry out new terrorist atrocities against airliners and airports, the security minister Ben Wallace told The Sunday Times.
The terrorist group behind the 9/11 attacks in 2001 poses a growing threat that is keeping ministers “awake at night”, he told the newspaper.
Wallace told the newspaper intelligence had revealed that al-Qaeda was developing technology to bring down passenger jets.
The warning was made at a time when flight service in Britain's Gatwick airport was badly hit in recent times over multiple drone sightings.
The incidents triggered security concerns and led to numerous flight cancellations last week.
Two people arrested in conjunction with the widespread disruption of flights at Gatwick Airport through the illegal use of drones have been released without charge on Sunday, Sussex Police said.
Sussex Police Detective Chief Superintendent Jason Tingley said in a statement: “Both people have fully co-operated with our enquiries and I am satisfied that they are no longer suspects in the drone incidents at Gatwick."
“It is important to remember that when people are arrested in an effort to make further enquiries it does not mean that they are guilty of an offence and Sussex Police would not seek to make their identity public," he said.
