Davos, Jan 10 (IBNS): US President Donald Trump will attend the World Economic Forum in Davos this month, officials said on Tuesday.

"But as we said earlier today in a statement, the President will attend and he welcomes the opportunity to go there and advance his America First agenda with world leaders.  And he is very much looking forward to being part of that process," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told media during the daily news conference.

She said Trump will focus on promoting policies which will aim at strengthening "American businesses and the American worker".

"This is very much an America First agenda.  The President is still 100 percent focused and committed to promoting policies that promote strength for American businesses and the American worker.  And that’s going to be the same whether he’s in the U.S. or any other place," she said.

She said details on the President's trip to Davos are still being worked out.

Sarah Sanders, however, confirmed that a number of senior members of the Cabinet and administration will be part of this event.

" We’re finalizing the details, but you can expect that a number of senior members of the Cabinet and administration will be part of this event.  Some will stay for a more extended period of time than the President," she said.

Speaking on the bilateral meets that the US President might join during the visit, she said: "Again, we’re finalizing the details of the trip.  As all of those things are locked in, we’ll certainly make sure you guys are well aware."

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also attend the World Economic Forum in Davos.

During the visit, Prime Minister will deliver the keynote speech at the plenary session of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland on 23 January 2018. He will also have a bilateral meeting with Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation on 22 January, the MEA said in a statement.

The theme for this year’s WEF is "Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World.” The plenary session will be moderated by Prof. Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman, WEF.

This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the WEF since the earlier one by Deve Gowda in 1997.
