Congress criticises land acquisition ord Greater Noida, Jan 14 (ANI): Congress party on Wednesday criticised central government’s land acquisition ordinance, saying it is not favour of farmers. India passed an urgent executive order last year on December 29 to ease land-acquisition rules in sectors like power, housing and defence to kick-start hundreds of billions of dollars in stalled projects. Naqvi taken into custody for breaching p Rampur, Jan 14 (ANI): Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was taken into judicial custody in Rampur on Wednesday for alleged poll code violation. Naqvi's arrest took place after a local court in Rampur sentenced him to one year in jail for violating the Model Code of Conduct during the 2009 general elections. However, Naqvi was later released on bail. An FIR had been registered against Naqvi and his supporters during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections in Rampur. Naqvi had allegedly breached the prohibitory orders in force and barged into a police station along with his party workers at Patwai area of Rampur parliamentary constituency while campaigning for the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. 14-Jan-2015

Market along India-Bangladesh border ina Agartala, Jan 14 (ANI): Trade Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with her Bangladeshi counterpart Tofaile Ahmed inaugurated third border market or 'haat' along the border in Tripura to boost trade between the two countries. The market is set up within five kilometres radius at the border, which will enhance local trade and people-to-people contact. Sitharaman said that the market would build better relations and benefit small purchasers. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in October 2010 on Border Haats and Border Trade along the India-Bangladesh border. Meanwhile, Ahmed said he was grateful to Indian government for awarding duty free, quota free market access in almost all the items except two-alcohol and tobacco. Politicos react as over 100 bodies found New Delhi/ Lucknow, Jan 14 (ANI): Political leaders on Tuesday react as over 100 bodies were found floating over River Ganges in Uttar Pradesh. More than 100 decaying dead bodies surfaced in the river Ganga near Pariyar between Kanpur and Unnao. The administration, which indicted these were reportedly bodies that are immersed in the river in the hope of salvation, was caught by surprise by the high number. The administration has however ordered an investigation in the case. Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti said that the ministry will act after looking at the report in the matter. SP leader Naresh Agarwal said that the Hindu ritual of giving away the bodies in the river for salvation may be the cause. Police said they also arrested a Maoist rebel accused in 15 cases. Vaz, who was captured as a suspected spy after he crept into the tropical island in disguise was born in 1651 in Goa. He traveled south at the age of 36, dressed as a beggar, to a country then divided into kingdoms after hearing about the persecution of Catholics by the Dutch, and worked for years under the protection of a Buddhist king. Meanwhile, Pope Francis touched upon the need for religious freedom at the mass. Dogs, crows and vultures dug into bodies as they had reached the bank due to low water level, posing major environment challenges in the areas under Unnao District. A district official, Suraj Prasad, promised action after probe. Residents blamed the state as well as the government at the centre for it. Centre removes DRDO chief Avinash Chande New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): The government has removed Defence Research and Development Organization Director General Avinash Chander from his post, 15 months before his contract was to end. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi "approved the termination" of the contract of Avinash Chander with effect from January 31, an official notification said. Chander was Secretary, Defence Research and Development-cum-Director General, DRDO and Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister. He had retired on November 30 last year after he turned 64, but was given a contract for 18 months till May 31 next year. He is considered to be the chief architect of Agni series of ballistic missile systems. 14-Jan-2015

During the kite festival in Vadodara city, scores of bird's died that were hit by harmful glass coated string used by participants who try to cut opponents' kite strings. The activists took to streets and spread messages of saving birds while holding banners reading 'Do not kill the birds, let them live'. A social activist, Bhagwan Bharwadh said that people should fly kites late in the day to save birds. The kite festival attracts enthusiastic kite makers and flyers from across the globe.
