Congress condemns, BJP supports Nataraja New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): Former UPA minister and senior Congress leader Jayanthi Natarajan on Friday resigned from the party alleging that Rahul Gandhi interfered in the working of the ministry. Condemning the statement, Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh and Shobha Oza said that the party leadership, be it Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi, never interfered in the decision making of the ministries. At least 48 children rescued from bangle Hyderabad, Jan 30 (ANI): Police rescued at least 48 child labourers from bangle factories in Hyderabad. The children were rescued after police carried out multiple raids across the city. Most of them belonged to Bihar state. The police have been carrying out raids as part of their 'Smile' programme to rescue minor children working in hazardous conditions. Hyderabad Police circle officer, N Rama Rao said they have booked a case against the owners and efforts are on to nab the culprits. Some children said they were forced to abandon their studies and work in factories with either no pay or little pay. Three Indian villagers injured in fresh Arnia, Jan 30 (ANI): In a fresh incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistani Rangers on the international border in Kashmir, three villagers were injured. The incident happened in Arnia sector of Jammu and Kashmir late Thursday night. The Border Security Force (BSF) has retaliated in full measure. Villagers rushed the three injured to a government hospital where condition of one of them has been described as critical. Residents said they faced difficulty in rescuing the wounded amid a barrage of bullets. Was very much part of decision to appoin New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that she was aware of the plans to replace Sujatha Singh with S Jaishankar, but the swift decision of the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday night to sack India's top diplomat has clearly taken her ministry by surprise. Swaraj said the abrupt appointment took place since the former was retiring on January 31. Swaraj tweeted, “I was very much a part of the decision to appoint Dr. Jaishankar as Foreign Secretary. Since Dr. Jaishankar was retiring on January 31, we had to issue orders of his appointment before that date. I told her that the Government wanted to appoint Dr.Jaishankar as Foreign Secretary,” Swaraj further added. GNLF founder Subash Ghisingh passes away New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) founder Subash Ghisingh, who spearheaded the Gorkhaland movement in the 1980s, died at the age of 78. He was suffering from liver ailments and cancer and breathed his last at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Ghisingh had founded GNLF in 1980 and was the chairman of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council in West Bengal from 1988 to 2008. Andhra Pradesh reports two swine flu dea Visakhapatnam, Jan 30 (ANI): Two swine flu deaths and 24 positive cases were reported from Andhra Pradesh, the state administration informed. Provincial Minister for Information and Public Relations (I& PR) Palle Raghunatha Reddy said that the government was monitoring the situation in port city Visakhapatnam. He added that government had taken various steps to check the spread of the virus and awareness campaign for the swine flu were increased. The minister said a state-level cabinet meeting of medical officials and doctors was held at King George Hospital of Visakhapatnam. Steps like arrangement for isolation rooms, providing adequate medicines and other materials are being taken. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. Unruly lawyers vandalise court premises Moradabad, Jan 29 (ANI): Lawyers went on a rampage in Moradabad on Thursday demanding a high court bench, a long-pending demand. The unruly lawyers vandalised court premises, forced traders to shut down their shops and removed several billboards. The lawyers have been demanding establishment of a high court bench of the Uttar Pradesh in Moradabad. A member of Bar Union, Amirul Hasan Zafari, accused the Central government of not doing anything to pay heed to their demand. The lawyers later held a sit-in at the court premises shouting slogans against the government. Sohail Ahmed, a worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), was found missing in December. His bullet-riddled body was found dumped in the area of Mochko police station. MQM says Ahmed's murder was not the first case of extrajudicial killing and that more than 35 of MQM's activists have been killed in recent times. On Thursday, most businesses were shut and the public transport remained off the road in Karachi and other parts of Sindh. Private schools were also shut in Karachi.
